The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that on Sunday, most parts of Indonesia will experience cloudy to heavily cloudy weather.

BMKG forecaster Nisa, in a YouTube broadcast monitored from Jakarta, said that for the Sumatra region, the public should be alert to smoke or fog in Pekanbaru, Palembang and Bandar Lampung.

Cloudy weather is likely in Pangkal Pinang, while Aceh will be heavily cloudy. Light rain is forecast to hit Medan, Tanjung Pinang and Bengkulu.

Residents of Padang should also be alert to rain that may be accompanied by lightning.

On Java, the weather in Semarang and Yogyakarta is forecast to be partly cloudy, while Surabaya will be cloudy. Serang is likely to be covered by thick clouds.

Light rain is likely to fall in the Bandung area.

For Kalimantan, hazy conditions are forecast to affect Palangkaraya, Samarinda and Banjarmasin. Pontianak is forecast to be heavily cloudy, while light rain is likely to fall in Tanjung Selor.

In Bali and Nusa Tenggara, the weather in Denpasar and Kupang is forecast to be partly cloudy, while Mataram is likely to be affected by smoke or fog.

“Light rain is likely to fall in Palu and Mamuju,” said Nisa.

For Maluku and North Maluku, Ternate and Ambon will be covered by thick clouds.

For Papua, Manokwari and Nabire are forecast to experience hazy conditions, while Jayapura and Merauke will be cloudy. Sorong is likely to be covered by thick clouds.

“Light rain is forecast to fall in Jayawijaya,” she said.

BMKG also warned of the potential for moderate to heavy rain in northern to southern Sumatra and central Papua.
