Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) of Polda Metro Jaya is opening two mobile driving licence (SIM) service locations for residents wishing to extend the validity of the legal driving requirement in the Jakarta area on Sunday.

The mobile SIM service provided by Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya is an effort to make it easier for residents to manage or complete one of the requirements for driving.

According to the X account @tmcpoldametro, the service operates from 07:00 to 12:00 WIB. The locations are:

East Jakarta: Jalan Raden Mas Inten, next to McDonald’s, Duren Sawit

West Jakarta: Jalan Panjang, next to Indomaret, Kebon Jeruk

The requirements are a photocopy of a valid ID card (KTP), the old physical licence and a photocopy, proof of a health check, and proof of a psychology test. The mobile SIM service can only extend licences that are still valid, and only for certain categories, namely SIM A and SIM C.

This service only handles renewals of SIM A and SIM C licences that are still valid, whereas holders whose licences have expired must apply for a new licence at the Satpas SIM Daan Mogot in West Jakarta.

Licences are now valid for five years from the date of issue and no longer align with the owner’s date of birth. This policy ensures that the expiry date is determined by the issuance date, not the applicant’s birthday.

For renewal fees, under Government Regulation Number 76 of 2020 concerning Types and Tariffs of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) applicable to the National Police, the fee is Rp80,000 for SIM A renewal and Rp75,000 for SIM C renewal.

In addition to these fees, applicants must also pay other supplementary costs, covering a psychology test fee of Rp100,000 and a health check fee of Rp50,000.

For information, drivers who cannot present a valid licence will face sanctions under Article 288 paragraph 2 of Law Number 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transport. The maximum penalty is imprisonment of up to one month or a fine of up to Rp250,000.
