Sundanese Cultural Parade Enlivens Bandung

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG - Thousands of residents crowded the area around Gedung Sate and along Jalan Diponegoro in Bandung on Saturday evening (16 May 2026). They came to witness the Kirab Milangkala Tatar Sunda, a lively parade filled with cultural nuances.

Since the afternoon, people began arriving to secure the best spots along the parade route. The enthusiasm of the residents grew as the cultural groups passed by, showcasing various traditional arts from 27 regencies and cities in West Java.

The cultural parade covered a distance of 3.5 kilometers, starting from Kiara Artha Park, passing through Jalan Jakarta and Jalan Supratman, and ending at Gedung Sate.

Various traditional art performances, regional music, and even sinden (traditional female singers) successfully captivated the attention of the crowds lining the parade route. The atmosphere in Bandung transformed into an open-air cultural stage filled with the spirit of preserving Sundanese traditions.

Melly Susilawati (40), a resident of Antapani, said she came early in the afternoon with her family to witness the cultural parade.

“We arrived at half past two in the afternoon. We wanted to see Kang Dedi and the royal carriage directly,” said Melly.

According to her, cultural events like the Kirab Milangkala Tatar Sunda serve as entertainment as well as a means of introducing Sundanese culture to young people and the wider community.

However, she hopes that future events will be even more organized given the high level of enthusiasm from the residents.

“Hopefully next year there will be another one, but it should be better organised so that residents feel more comfortable,” she said.

A similar sentiment was expressed by Andri Aji (29), a resident of Buahbatu who came with his wife and child to enjoy the cultural parade in the Taman Lansia area.

He admitted that he was entertained by the lively procession and the traditional art performances that passed in front of the residents.

“The most interesting thing was seeing the sinden and the cultural procession. Bandung feels more alive tonight,” he said.

The Kirab Milangkala Tatar Sunda is not only a celebration of culture but also a space for the community of West Java to come together in preserving and celebrating the Sundanese heritage amidst the vibrant atmosphere of Bandung.
