TOKYO (Reuter): Sumitomo Chemical Engineering Co. Ltd. said
yesterday it had won a US$40 million turnkey contract to build a
petrochemical product plant for Indonesia's Siam Maspion
Polymers.
The plant, scheduled to be completed by the end of 1997, will
have capacity to produce an annual 120,000 tons of polyvinyl
chloride resin (PVC), Sumitomo Chemical Engineering said in a

PVC is used to make a variety of goods such as water pipes and
synthetic leather. The petrochemical product is a derivative of
ethylene which is made from naphtha.
