Sumenep Regency Prepares 20 Ambulances to Anticipate Ship Fire Victims
The Sumenep Regency Government has placed 20 ambulance units on standby at Kalianget Port as a precautionary measure in the event that victims of the KMP Mutiara Sentosa 2 fire are evacuated to the area. The Regent of Sumenep, Achmad Fauzi Wongsojudo, stated on Sunday night in Sumenep, East Java, that this step was taken as a form of preparedness and care for the ship’s passengers. “With this readiness, if any passengers are brought to Sumenep, they can immediately receive medical examination and treatment,” he said. According to Fauzi, the local government has also coordinated with port authorities, security forces, and disaster management teams to ensure that both the evacuation process and healthcare services run optimally. The KMP Mutiability Sentosa 2 caught fire in the waters of Sumenep Regency on Sunday morning while sailing from Surabaya to Makassar. According to data from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) as of 18:00 WIB on Sunday, 232 people have been evacuated, consisting of 227 survivors and five fatalities. Basarnas stated that search and rescue operations are still ongoing, involving KN SAR 249 Permadi, RIB Sumenep, KRI Nala 363, and several commercial vessels located near the incident site.
