Sumenep Park to undergo revitalisation through cross-departmental collaboration

The Central Jakarta Administration is preparing the revitalisation of Sumenep Park, Menteng, by involving several regional agencies to transform it into a lush, natural, and functional public space.

The Mayor of Central Jakarta, Arifin, has also requested the Sub-department of Parks and Urban Forests (Sudin Tamhut) to immediately draft a master plan for the park’s revitalisation.

“This step is being taken to harmonise the park’s arrangement with the management of the Kali Gresik water channel, involving various relevant regional agencies,” Arifin stated in an official statement in Jakarta on Friday.

He noted that the revitalisation will not focus solely on landscaping, as Sumenep Park directly borders the Kali Gresik water flow. According to him, the implementation of the revitalisation will require cross-sector collaboration and a significant budget.

“We want this place to be frequently visited, where children can play and the community can enjoy a park that is neatly arranged, natural, and free from environmental issues,” said Arifin.

He further explained that the design scope, which was originally limited from the entrance near Jalan Sudirman to the Car Free Day (CFD) area, will be expanded to include the ornamental fish sales centre (CPG) at the far end of the park.

Physical construction, according to Mila, is scheduled for 2027. Priorities include the revitalisation and structural reinforcement of the iconic bridge, the addition of seating facilities, and the alignment of pedestrian colours with the park’s theme.

The Sub-department of Parks and Urban Forests will also coordinate with the Sub-department of Water Resources regarding the revitalisation of retaining walls and the Water Agency’s infrastructure buildings to ensure the area’s arrangement becomes a unified visual whole.
