Sumedang (ANTARA) - The Sumedang Regency Government (Pemkab Sumedang), West Java, has carried out the relocation of two houses belonging to victims affected by a landslide in Mekar Rahayu Village, South Sumedang Subdistrict.

Head of the Housing, Settlement Areas, and Land Agency (Disperkimtan) of Sumedang, Marlina, in Sumedang on Thursday, stated that her agency had conducted an assessment and determined the relocation site for the victims’ houses.

“We checked together earlier. Based on the assessment, there are two houses that must be relocated,” Marlina said.

She also explained that inter-agency coordination is continuously being carried out to accelerate the relocation and renovation process for the affected houses.

“Previously, we have already relocated seven houses here (Mekar Rahayu) and it is still possible to rebuild these two houses without the need for new land acquisition,” she said.

Meanwhile, her agency will continue to coordinate with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to ensure that all relocation steps proceed according to procedure.

This situation has led her agency to assess that public education and environmental monitoring should be a priority for the government to reduce the risk of future victims.

“We will certainly continue to coordinate with BPBD, which will conduct further assessments and studies. We have also asked the subdistrict head and police sector to educate the public living in houses prone to landslides during the rainy season,” she said.

With these steps, Pemkab Sumedang hopes that the residents of Mekar Rahayu can return to a safe environment, while also enhancing preparedness to face potential disasters in the future.
