The Sumedang Regency Government, West Java, is preparing the construction of 120 houses for the parents of Sekolah Rakyat students through the uninhabitable housing (Rutilahu) programme, which is targeted to begin in November 2026.

Speaking in Sumedang on Thursday, the Regent of Sumedang, Dony Ahmad Munir, stated that the Rutilahu construction is part of the local government’s commitment to addressing the living conditions of Sekolah Rakyat families.

“For the parents of students, 120 houses have been approved and, God willing, this November, 120 houses will be constructed for the parents of Sekolah Rakyat students,” he said.

According to the Regent, providing decent housing for students’ families is a form of local government support to ensure that the benefits of the Sekolah Rakyat programme are felt by the parents as well as the children.

“For the students’ parents, it is one activity, but it can be completed entirely. Alhamdulillah, 15 households of Sekolah Rakyat parents have proposed uninhabitable houses for the BSPS programme and have been approved,” he added.

Dony noted that the construction will begin in November, allowing the target families to obtain more decent housing promptly.

He further mentioned that the Sumedang Regency Government had previously constructed a house for a student’s parent named Fikri, through the support of the local government and other stakeholders.

This construction effort is part of a collaboration between the Sumedang Regency Government and various parties to provide direct support to the families of Sekolah Rakyat students.

The Sumedang Regency Government hopes that the provision of decent housing will improve the living conditions of students’ families and support the sustainability of the Sekolah Rakyat programme in the region.
