The Sumedang Regency Government in West Java is strengthening the capital base of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) operators through a Regional People’s Business Credit (Kurda) programme with a 3% annual interest rate, as part of efforts to increase business capacity and competitiveness.

Regent Dony Ahmad Munir stated on Wednesday that Kurda is one of the financing schemes prepared by the local government to overcome capital constraints, enabling sustainable business development. “Do not be hindered by capital issues anymore. The government has prepared various financing schemes. What is more important is how to improve product quality, expand markets, and continue to innovate in order to compete,” he said.

This effort is particularly relevant given that data from the Sumedang Regency Government records approximately 85,400 MSMEs, which serve as a pillar of the regional economy. Furthermore, the 2026 Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) document indicates that total bank lending to the MSME sector in the area reached around IDR 4.69 trillion in 2024, reflecting the high demand for financing among business operators.

In addition to strengthening access to capital through Kurda, the Sumedang Regency Government is also providing support for product quality improvement, skills training through the Job Training Centre (BLK), and marketing facilitation via the UMKM Center to help businesses develop and advance. Managerial training attended by MSME forum coordinators from 26 sub-districts is part of the effort to build business capacity, enabling operators to manage their enterprises more professionally.

“The knowledge gained must be put into practice to have a real impact on business development,” he said. The Sumedang Regency Government hopes that strengthening financing access through Kurda, supported by improved managerial competence, will accelerate the emergence of more upgraded MSMEs, create jobs, and contribute to regional economic growth.
