Sumedang Promotes Eco-Friendly Eid al-Adha Meat Distribution Using Bamboo Baskets and Banana Leaves
Sumedang Regency is promoting environmentally friendly practices for the distribution of sacrificial meat during Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah, including reducing single-use plastic bags. Regent Dony Ahmad Munir advised using traditional packaging such as bamboo baskets (besek) and banana leaf mats to show environmental concern. ‘We recommend using eco-friendly packaging like bamboo baskets and banana leaves for sacrificial meat distribution. This is what we usually do,’ he said. He added that the spirit of qurban should not only be seen as an act of worship and social care but also as a commitment to environmental sustainability. Using bamboo baskets not only reduces plastic waste but also helps preserve the environment. ‘Eid al-Adha is not just about sharing with others, but also about keeping the environment clean and healthy,’ he stated. This year, Masjid Agung Sumedang collected eight cows and six goats for distribution to underprivileged communities, orphanages, and the elderly. The meat will be distributed from Thursday morning to pre-registered recipients to ensure targeted delivery.
