Sumedang Prepares Mitigation for Agricultural Land Amid Long Dry Season

The Sumedang Regency government is optimistic that agricultural production volumes can be maintained during the long dry season. The regency has prepared a number of measures to mitigate drought on agricultural land. “We have undertaken several efforts. These include optimising water sources, repairing reservoirs and irrigation networks, accelerating the construction of agricultural infrastructure, and preparing water pumps in farming areas adjacent to water sources,” said Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir. He added that the Sumedang Regency government is working hard to ensure agricultural production does not decline, as this sector contributes significantly to regional economic growth. Therefore, all supporting infrastructure must be confirmed ready before the dry season arrives. He acknowledged that the long dry season is a challenge that must be anticipated. The El Niño phenomenon has the potential to reduce agricultural production due to a more extended dry season. To address this, the Sumedang Regency government has taken various anticipatory steps well in advance through cross-sectoral consolidation involving the Agriculture Office, the Public Works Office, the River Basin Agency, farmer groups, and various other stakeholders.
