Sumedang Government Confirms People's School Ready for Use in September

Sumedang (ANTARA) - The Sumedang Regency Government in West Java has confirmed that the construction of the Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School) in Keboncau Village, Ujungjaya District, is on track to be ready for use by September 2026, with physical progress currently reaching 87 percent. Regent Dony Ahmad Munir stated on Monday that the completion of the project is being accelerated to ensure all facilities, infrastructure, and supporting amenities are finished before teaching and learning activities are relocated to the new site. “Overall, the construction progress has reached 87 percent. God willing, we will continue to accelerate the development so that by September everything will be ready for students to begin learning here with excellent facilities,” he said. He noted that students are currently undergoing temporary lessons at the Job Training Centre before being moved to the People’s School complex, which is expected to accommodate more than 500 students from various areas in Sumedang Regency. The school is being built on approximately seven hectares of land with a budget of around Rp290 billion from the central government and will feature classrooms, male and female dormitories, a dining hall, an auditorium, a mosque, a library, sports fields, and other supporting facilities. “Children from underprivileged families now have the opportunity to enjoy education with extraordinary facilities. This is a manifestation of the state’s presence in providing equal education rights for all children of the nation,” he said. He added that the educational complex is designed to eventually accommodate up to 1,000 students at full capacity, with the aim of expanding access to boarding education for children from poor and extremely poor families in Sumedang. “Their parents may not have been fortunate, but their children have the opportunity to achieve a better, more successful, and more prosperous future through quality education,” he said. The Sumedang Regency Government hopes that the completion of the project according to the target will accelerate the operationalisation of the People’s School so that it can soon be utilised to broaden access to quality education for the community, particularly children from underprivileged families.
