Sumedang Finalises 5km Ciherang-Kareumbi Road Improvement
Sumedang, West Java — The Sumedrag Regency Government is accelerating the completion of the final 500 metres of the Ciherang-Kareumbi road, which spans approximately five kilometres and connects Mekarahayu and Margalaksana, to ensure the route reaches 100% stability.
Speaking in Sumedang on Friday, the Regent of Sumedang, Dony Ahmad Munir, stated that approximately 4.5 kilometres of the road section is already in stable condition, while the remaining 500 metres will be completed promptly based on the specific damage found on-site.
“This section is approximately five kilometres long. Alhamdullilah, 4.5 kilometres are already stable, with only 500 metres remaining. God willing, we will complete this soon for the people of Mekarahayu and Margalaksana,” he said.
Dony noted that one of the points that has been repaired is located in the Margalaksana Block, specifically on the border of Mekarahayu and Margalaksana villages, which previously featured an incline with damaged road conditions that was prone to accidents.
“This incline was previously severely damaged and accident-prone. Alhamdullilah, it has now been concreted, so hopefully, it will provide a sense of safety and comfort for road users,” he added.
According to the Regent, the completion of the final 500 metres will not rely solely on concrete construction, as several points will be treated using the hotmix method depending on the extent of the damage.
Furthermore, the Sumedang Regency Government plans to widen the road shoulders, particularly in incline areas, to allow vehicles travelling from both directions to pass each other more safely.
“Because this is an incline, in the future, I will add road shoulders so that two cars can pass each other more safely,” he explained.
The Sumedang Regency Government is also preparing the phased installation of street lighting (PJU), prioritising areas identified as high-risk for accidents or crime.
“Street lighting will not be installed all at once, but will be prioritised at points prone to accidents or criminal activity. This way, the road will become even safer for users,” he clarified.
The road repairs have received a positive response from the local community, who have long awaited improved access and road safety. The Sumedang Regency Government aims to complete the entire Ciherang-Kareumbi section soon to ensure smoother and safer mobility for the residents of Ciherang, Mekarahayu, and Margalaksana villages.
