Syamsudin (42), a resident of Tarusa Batu Hamlet, Tarusa Village, Buer District, Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), has been reported missing while spearfishing in Labuan Alas waters on Friday night (14/08).

Based on information received by the Mataram SAR Office on Saturday morning (15/08), the victim is known to have departed to go spearfishing at around 18:40 WITA. However, by 23:00 WITA, the victim’s companion who had also gone out to sea had returned to shore, while the victim had not come back. At the scene, only the victim’s container and shoes were found.

Following up on the report, the Sumbawa SAR Post Rescue Team was immediately deployed to the location carrying water SAR equipment, including a rubber boat and an Aqua Eye underwater detection device.

As of Saturday afternoon, search efforts involving a joint SAR team comprising elements of the TNI, Polri, and local community members and fishermen were still being carried out around the Labuan Alas waters.

“As of this afternoon, the team in the field has not found any signs of the victim’s whereabouts. Tomorrow morning, we will resume the search,” said Kurais, Coordinator of the Sumbawa SAR Post, representing the Head of the Mataram SAR Office.
