PT PLN (Persero) has completed the restoration of Sumatra’s power system following a widespread disruption in the interconnected transmission system. By 06:00 WIB on Sunday, 24 May 2026, PLN had normalised 176 affected substations.

Power supply to customers has been restored progressively as the normalisation process continues. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that the entire restoration process was carried out intensively since the disruption began on Friday, 22 May.

PLN collaborated with the government and local stakeholders to gradually restore the power generation system, transmission network, substations, and electricity distribution to the public.

“Thanks to the relentless efforts of field personnel and support from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and local authorities, Sumatra’s power system has now returned to normal. Affected customers are gradually regaining electricity supply,” Darmawan said in a statement received on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

He explained that the restoration prioritised system safety and reliability. After reconnecting Sumatra’s transmission network, PLN proceeded with power plant restarts and synchronisation, gradually feeding electricity from generators into the transmission system to restore supply.

Darmawan also expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and support during the restoration process.

“We thank the public for their patience and support throughout the restoration,” he added.
