Sumatra's Infrastructure Gradually Recovers Following Disaster
BOGOR — The Coordinator Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Menko IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated that the acceleration of rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure following natural disasters in Aceh and other regions of Sumatra continues to proceed.
“Specifically, we are updating progress and evaluating the Task Force for Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction following natural disasters in Sumatra, including Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra,” said AHY in Bogor on Friday (27 February 2026).
He noted that conditions in the three provinces demonstrate significant improvement compared to the initial post-disaster period.
According to data from the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (PRR) as of 23 February 2026, all 38 affected national road sections and 17 damaged national bridges in Aceh have returned to functional operation.
In North Sumatra, all 30 affected national roads and five damaged national bridges have also returned to operation. Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, 31 affected national roads and 13 damaged national bridges have been restored to use.
In addition to roads and bridges, the recovery of electrical networks and telecommunications services also shows positive trends.
