PT PLN (Persero) announced that Sumatra’s electricity system has gradually recovered following a widespread disruption that affected the interconnected transmission network in the region.

According to PLN’s official release on Sunday (24 May 2026), by 06:00 WIB, the state-owned enterprise had successfully restored 176 substations affected by the outage, allowing electricity supply to customers to be gradually restored.

PLN’s President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, while inspecting the operational readiness of the Tenayan coal-fired power plant (PLTU) in Pekanbaru, Riau, explained that the entire recovery process had been intensively carried out since the outage began on Friday.

In this effort, PLN closely coordinated with the government and local stakeholders to gradually normalise the system from power generation, transmission networks, substations, down to direct distribution to the public.

“Alhamdulillah, thanks to the relentless efforts of all field personnel and support from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and regional authorities, Sumatra’s electricity system has now returned to normal. Affected customers are gradually regaining power supply,” Darmawan said.

Furthermore, Darmawan detailed that the power restoration process was executed while prioritising system safety and reliability.

After the Sumatra transmission network was successfully reconnected, field teams proceeded to restart power plants and synchronise them step-by-step to reintroduce electricity from the plants into the Sumatra transmission system until full supply was restored.

In closing, Darmawan also expressed deep gratitude to all segments of society for their support and understanding during the substation and power network recovery process.

“We extend our thanks for the public’s patience and support throughout the restoration process,” Darmawan added.
