PLN has confirmed that Sumatra’s power system has returned to normal operation following a disturbance in the transmission system linking the island’s power grid.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that the restoration process is being directly supervised until all affected customers have their power restored.

‘We are directly overseeing the restoration process on-site, and Sumatra’s power system is now back to normal. PLN continues to restore electricity supply to all customers,’ Darmawan said in a statement on Monday, 25 May 2026.

He explained that PLN has successfully supplied 5,579 megawatts (MW) of power to 1,770 customer distribution networks previously affected by the disturbance.

To ensure optimal restoration, Darmawan and PLN’s board visited the Sumatra Transmission and Load Control Center (UIP3BS) in Pekanbaru, Riau, on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

In addition to restoring affected networks, PLN has also monitored power supply at public facilities such as hospitals, airports, and community service centres to ensure uninterrupted operations in vital sectors during the recovery process.

PLN continues to monitor system conditions in real-time via UIP3BS, the operational control centre for Sumatra’s power grid.

‘We are conducting comprehensive oversight of all system operational parameters. Real-time monitoring allows immediate response to developments, ensuring the system remains safe, stable, and optimally serves public electricity needs,’ Darmawan said.

Meanwhile, at the South Sumatra Load Control Unit (UP2B Sumbagsel) in Palembang, South Sumatra, PLN Distribution Director Arsyadany Akmala Putri led system recovery coordination to ensure each restoration step proceeded safely, systematically, and in line with procedures.
