Sumatra highway in bad repair

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: A main road connecting two provincial capitals on Sumatra island is severely damaged, sparking concern that it will disrupt travel during the Idul Fitri holiday in early November.

The road was heavily potholed in Musi Banyuasin regency between Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra, and Jambi, the capital of Jambi province.

The road is used by large numbers of seasonal travellers returning home during the Idul Fitri holiday, which falls this year on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4. The flow of extra traffic usually begins a week before the Idul Fitri holiday commences. -- JP
