Sultra Provincial Civil Servants Use Shuttle Buses Every Thursday to Save Fuel
Kendari (ANTARA) - Civil servants (ASN) within the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government (Pemprov Sultra) have begun using shuttle bus facilities as transport to the office every Thursday to support the fuel-saving (BBM) movement. Southeast Sulawesi Governor Andi Sumangerukka, when met in Kendari on Thursday, stated that the policy is intended to create the Governor’s Office area as a motor vehicle-free zone, implemented once a week on Thursdays. “Today we are starting a moral initiative to save fuel. Hopefully, this policy runs smoothly, and every Thursday the governor’s office area is free from motor vehicles,” said Andi Sumangerukka. In the inaugural implementation of this policy, the parking area of the Governor’s Office appeared empty of private vehicles. Employees utilised the bus service provided by the Sultra Transportation Department (Dishub), which operates via two main routes. “Meanwhile, the second route serves the former MTQ Kendari area using buses from the Civil Service Police Unit and the Social Services Department. All fleets are scheduled to depart simultaneously at 06:30 WITA,” he said. Andi Sumangerukka explained that in addition to using shuttle buses, some ASN also choose to use bicycles and public transport as alternatives. The Governor also set an example by cycling from his residence to the office with several regional device organisation (OPD) leaders. “This step is expected to curb energy consumption in the government environment while serving as an example for the public in efforts to preserve the environment and energy efficiency in Southeast Sulawesi,” he clarified. He added that the Sultra Provincial Government is committed to consistently implementing this programme and will evaluate its execution to ensure effective employee mobilisation even without private vehicles to the office area.
