Sultan's brother vies for regent's post

YOGYAKARTA: A brother of Yogyakarta Sultan Hamengkubuwono X,
Prince Yudhaningrat, is vying for the post of regent in Bantul,
south of the provincial capital.

Yudhaningrat will contest the direct election in June as a
candidate from the Islam-based Justice Peace Party (PKS) with
Aziz Umar as his running mate.

The National Mandate Party (PAN) has nominated former deputy
regent Totok Sudarto and Riswanto as its candidates for regent
and deputy regent respectively.

Regent Idham Samawi is bidding for another five-year term as a
candidate of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, which
has also named Sumarno PRS as his running mate.

More than 630,000 people will cast their vote in the
unprecedented direct election for regent and deputy regent here.
