Sultan to open 'Peh Cun' ritual

YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X is
slated to open the Peh Cun ritual that will feature ethnic
Chinese and Javanese attractions at the Parangtritis seaside
resort on June 15.

A local martial arts group, Ibetado, and an acrobatic troupe,
Kubro Siswo, will highlight the ritual, which is a tradition of
Chinese origin locally handed down through generations as an
expression of gratitude to God.

The Peh Cun festival will also present Javanese dances and
Chinese dragon and lion dances as a element of acculturation with
local arts, which are expected to further foster national unity
amid the wave of pluralism, said organizers on Sunday.--Antara
