Sultan of Brunei wins backing

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): More than 50 member countries of the
International Badminton Federation (IBF), holding 70 percent of
the total votes, have come out in support of Sultan Hassanal
Bolkiah of Brunei who has been nominated for the presidency of
the sport's world governing body.

They include badminton powers like Indonesia, China, Denmark,
South Korea and Malaysia, which have five votes each for the
election to be held in Seville, Spain, on June 3.

Asian Badminton Confederation (ABC) secretary-general Datuk
Punch Gunalan told Bernama on Wednesday that more of the 140 IBF
member countries were expected to throw their support behind the
Sultan ahead of the IBF's annual general meeting, to be held in
conjunction with the World Championship in the Spanish city.
