Sultan of Brunei visits Indonesia

JAKARTA: Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam arrived here on Monday to begin his four-day visit to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

The presidential office announced that the Sultan was greeted at Halim Perdanakusumah airport by Minister of Defense Matori Abdul Djalil, and was scheduled to meet President Megawati Soekarnoputri on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace.

The Sultan will travel to Yogyakarta on Wednesday, when he will awarded an honorary doctorate degree from state-owned Gadjah Mada University. Yogyakarta is one of several towns in the country which maintains its royal tradition.

Before flying back to Brunei on Thursday, the Sultan will visit the headquarters of the Marine Corps and the Army's Special Forces (Kopassus). -- JP
