SINGAPORE (AFP): The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, will visit Singapore this week to discuss bilateral and regional issues with leaders of the island state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.
The Sultan will be accompanied by his brother Jefri Bolkiah and senior Bruneian officials during his visit from March 16 to 18, a statement from the ministry said.
Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew will meet Bolkiah during his brief visit, the statement said. Goh will host a dinner for the Sultan tomorrow.
Like Singapore, Brunei has been largely unaffected by the regional economic crisis, although the value of the Brunei dollar has also depreciated since it is linked to the Singapore dollar.
