Sultan launches poster campaign

YOGYAKARTA: Sultan Hamengkubuwono X launched on Sunday posters of Wakil Rakyat (people's representatives) in a bid to popularize the province's representatives.

The sultan, who is also the governor of Yogyakarta, symbolically handed over the posters to the province's mayors and regents.

Some 25,000 posters are expected to be put up in various locations.

The posters display the pictures of the six members of the House of Representatives from Yogyakarta and includes their contact details -- such as their websites, e-mail, home and office addresses.

The sultan said the poster launch was a symbolic attempt to bridge the communication gap between members of the public and their representatives.

He said the posters will help the public identify their legislators and how to air their aspirations.(44)
