Sultan HB X Targets 6% Economic Growth for DIY This Year

The Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono (HB) X, has asked civil servants (ASN) in Bantul Regency to be more innovative and creative amid budget efficiency measures. The Sultan hopes that economic growth in DIY will reach 6% this year. “Yes, as I mentioned earlier, I hope the ASN here will also become more innovative and creative,” said the Sultan to reporters at the Parasamya pendopo in the Bantul Regent’s Office Complex, Bantul Regency, on Friday (10/4/2026). All of this, continued Ngarsa Dalem, is because the regional budget is currently subject to efficiency measures from the centre. Therefore, ASN need to innovate and be creative to focus on boosting regional economic growth. “As I said earlier, it’s better for us to focus, because the budget is also decreasing. As long as we focus, growth will happen,” he stated. Moreover, in 2025, DIY’s economic growth reached the highest figure on Java at 5.94% in the fourth quarter of 2025. Thus, Ngarsa Dalem has high hopes that this year DIY’s economic growth can increase despite the budget efficiency constraints. “Last year (2025), we in DIY had the highest in Java, 5.94%. So I hope with focus at the provincial and regency/city levels, we can break through six (percent) this year,” he said. According to detikNews, President Prabowo issued a Presidential Instruction (Inpres) on efficiency in spending for the implementation of the 2025 state and regional budgets. Prabowo has asked that activities of a ceremonial nature up to seminars be limited. There are seven points in Prabowo’s instruction for budget efficiency. The directive from Prabowo to limit ceremonial activities is contained in point four. This instruction is intended for governors, regents, and mayors.
