Sultan HB X Shares Lessons in Financial Management at JFF 2026: Gemi, Nastiti, Ngati-ati
Jogja Financial Festival (JFF) 2026 took place at Jogja Expo Center (JEC), Bantul, the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), and began today. As hosts, the DIY Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, in his remarks, touched on the Javanese philosophy Gemi Nastiti Ngati-ati.
The Sultan welcomed the organisation of Jogja Financial Festival. He noted that for economic growth not to lose its dignity, policy, culture, knowledge, and technology must all be involved. In addition, financial discipline is a key value that must be maintained.
The Sultan also explained the Javanese philosophy Gemi, Nastiti, Ngati-ati as the basis for economic behaviour oriented towards prudence, sustainability, and self-control.
‘The Gemi philosophy is about restraining consumption for long‑term goals. Financial freedom is not about the ability to buy, but the ability to refrain,’ the Sultan said in his remarks on Friday (22/5/2026).
The second philosophy, Nastiti, means caution when analysing before deciding. The Sultan noted that, according to data from OJK-BPS, millions of residents have not truly understood the financial system they participate in, particularly villagers.
‘This is where Nastiti finds its most strategic relevance,’ he added.
Finally, the Ngati-ati philosophy means vigilance against risk. The Sultan discussed the online lending phenomenon, which is increasingly widespread. This has led to a tendency to incur debt due to low financial literacy.
‘Thus I invite us all to view financial literacy from a broader horizon,’ the Sultan noted.
Based on these philosophies, the Sultan urged Indonesia to bolster the economy of society. First, to strengthen financial education, to support healthy financing for SMEs, to accelerate digital financial transformation, and to offer more Sharia-compliant financial options.
‘Gemi, Nastiti, Ngati-ati are not an ancient lesson about a narrow way of life; they are a civilisational lesson about a life of freedom,’ the Sultan concluded.
It is noted that Jogja Financial Festival 2026 is being held over two days and will feature a range of engaging activities, including business talks, educational classes, and a career corner. Also, participants can enjoy other entertainments such as a comedy live show with Lapor Pak performing at 1:00 pm.
For the educational class session in the afternoon, participants can gain various knowledge and learn directly how to manage money and invest from experts. The session will cover topics such as New Wealth Era: Market, Algorithm, and Money; Financial Survival for the Young Generation; and How to Manage Finances in the Creative Industry.
At the end of the event, participants will also enjoy musical performances by Happy Asmara and Ari Lasso.
