Sultan HB X Opens 2026 Java-Bali Outstanding Local Government Awards
The Ministry of Home Affairs held the 2026 Outstanding Local Government Awards for the Java-Bali region at the Yogyakarta Marriott Hotel in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, this evening. The opening address by the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, marked the commencement of the event.
As host, the Sultan expressed that it was an honour for the Special Region of Yogyakarta, particularly in an atmosphere celebrating the tangible work of local governments across Java and Bali. In his address, the Sultan stated that government performance in this era can no longer be measured merely by good intentions, but by outcomes genuinely felt by the public.
“It is in this context that tonight’s award holds meaning. It is not merely symbolic appreciation, but confirmation that the right policies, when executed with earnestness, can produce measurable change in real life,” the Sultan explained in his speech on Thursday (4/6/2026). “I believe that good governance is a long-term investment. It may not always generate applause today, but it will leave a legacy felt by the next generation,” he continued.
The Sultan also congratulated the award recipients. In his view, what regional leaders accomplish in their respective areas is not only an achievement, but tangible inspiration that amidst all limitations and the complexity of challenges, dedication to the people can still yield proud results.
“With such meaning, I warmly welcome the holding of this event, while also bidding you welcome to Yogyakarta. May the appreciation and awards given serve as additional energy to expand the benefits of development for the community,” the Sultan concluded.
The 2026 Outstanding Local Government Awards is a programme designed to spur local government performance and is being held in stages based on regions. Yogyakarta was appointed as the host for the Java and Bali region. In this regional edition, there are four categories being contested: Inflation Control, Poverty and Stunting Reduction, Unemployment Rate Reduction, and Creative Financing (regional financing innovation).
“This will continue, but perhaps the topics will be different later,” said Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian in his address.
