Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono (HB) X has issued a stern warning to unscrupulous village chiefs or officials who misuse village treasury land (TKD). The Sultan stressed that he will take action against these rogue individuals in accordance with the law. “Yes, my hope is that village chiefs do not engage in corruption, but I cannot say that if they have their own interests. The point is, I will take action if they violate the rules, that’s it,” the Sultan asserted after a plenary meeting at the DIY Provincial Parliament Building in Jogja on Thursday (2/7/2026). He was responding to the detention of the former Village Chief of Condongcatur (Concat), Sleman, Reno Candra Sangaji. The Sultan stated that he himself had requested the Concat TKD case be processed legally. “That’s it, I was the one who submitted the request for it to proceed. It must be resolved legally, that’s all,” he explained. Reno has been named a suspect in two alleged corruption cases involving the misuse of village treasury land in his area, located in Padukuhan Gandok and Padukuhan Pringwulung. The Gandok TKD case is being handled by the DIY Regional Police, while the Pringwulung TKD case is managed by the DIY High Prosecutor’s Office. Reno has been detained since Monday (22/6) in connection with the Gandok TKD case, with police seizing evidence including land lease agreement documents and rental money. “Based on an audit by the DIY Representative Office of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency, the suspect’s actions caused state financial losses amounting to IDR 1,740,213,500,” said AKBP Haris Munandar Hasyim, Head of Sub-Directorate 3 of the DIY Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate, during a press conference on Tuesday (30/6). In the Pringwulung TKD case, Reno was named a suspect alongside a former Jagabaya with the initial K. They were declared suspects on Tuesday (30/6) for the case in Kalurahan Persil 88, Padukuhan Pringwulung. “The suspects’ actions resulted in state financial losses, specifically to the Condongcatur Village Government, and provided benefits to unauthorised parties amounting to IDR 4,224,342,510.90,” explained Langgeng Prabowo, Head of Legal Information at the DIY High Prosecutor’s Office, on Tuesday (30/6). In this instance, Reno and K allegedly abused their authority by allowing and leasing the land to other parties without obtaining permission from the Governor of DIY. Prosecutors stated Reno was not detained in this case as he was already in custody for another matter. This is not the first such case; previous village chiefs, including Agus Santoso of Caturtunggal, Kasidi of Maguwoharjo, Sismantoro of Candibinangun, and Sarjono of Tegaltirto, have been apprehended for involvement in village treasury land cases, with some already serving sentences following court verdicts.
