Sultan HB: Paskibraka education a foundation for shaping the nation's future generation
Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said the knowledge and values gained during Paskibraka education should be practised as a provision for shaping character and determining future steps as the nation’s next generation.
“The knowledge you gained during the education is what must be able to determine your fighting spirit for the future as Indonesian citizens,” said Sri Sultan in his address at the Friendly Gathering of DIY Paskibraka with the Governor at the Kepatihan Hall, Yogyakarta, on Tuesday.
According to the Sultan, the fatigue, struggle, and various sacrifices of members, as well as the experience and knowledge gained by Paskibraka members during their education, are expected to be utilised as much as possible in daily life, including in the school environment.
“That knowledge and understanding is not something that just any young people get in the same portion as what you have done. So you should be proud of everything you have achieved in carrying out your duties as Paskibraka,” he said.
The Governor of DIY also reminded Paskibraka members across DIY not to be complacent and trapped in the increasingly complex challenges of the times in the era of various latest technologies that provide many conveniences for humans.
According to the Sultan, humans as technology users must be able to limit and direct its use so that it provides benefits, rather than being destructive and eroding character as virtuous and cultured human beings.
The Governor also expressed hope that Paskibraka members, as young people with strong fighting spirit, would be able to face and resolve various challenges that arise in the future, rather than avoiding them.
According to him, these various challenges can become experience and a learning process in shaping maturity.
“As Paskibraka members, you can be more mature, can understand how life is full of challenges, failures, and successes depending on how you yourself see, feel, and experience the process of life with others, or in your own behaviour,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the DIY National Unity and Politics Agency Lilik Andi Aryanto said the selection process for DIY Paskibraka prioritised the principle of fairness, and various strategic partners were also engaged to ensure that the selected Paskibraka truly met the requirements.
“The selection process starts from the regency/city level, continues to the DIY level selection, up to the determination of those who meet administrative, health, physical ability, intelligence, personality, national insight, and drill command ability requirements,” he said.
He said Paskibraka members were also provided with various training materials to shape character that is not only mature in flag-raising duties, but also has insight, leadership, and skills that support their role as young people.
“Training materials include drill commands, flag-raising formations, national insight, prevention, eradication, abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotics, prevention of radicalism and terrorism, the Special Status of DIY, leadership, tourism, entrepreneurship, public speaking, morals and ethics, as well as psychology and motivation,” he said.
