Amid the escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia has ensured that all international flights from and to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (UPG) in Makassar continue to operate normally.

South Sulawesi residents need not worry, as all flight operations on the Jeddah–Makassar route remain secure and operate according to schedule. Latest data from the airport authority demonstrates solid flight activity. On 1 March, an inbound Jeddah–Makassar flight operated by Lion Air successfully landed, carrying 386 passengers. The return flights to the Holy Land also proceeded smoothly, with a Makassar–Jeddah departure on 2 March operated by Flyadeal departing on schedule, carrying 79 prospective pilgrims and tourists.

The airport management confirmed that no flights to the Middle East region, particularly Jeddah, have been affected or cancelled. This is welcome news for prospective passengers travelling for pilgrimage, business, or family visits.

General Manager of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport’s Branch Office, Minggus Gandeguai, stated that the airport is taking an active approach. Intensive coordination with airlines, aviation authorities, and relevant agencies continues regularly to anticipate any potential developments in the global situation.

“To date, operations and flight services on the Jeddah route from and to Makassar continue to operate normally. We continue to coordinate with airlines and relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of service users remain protected,” said Minggus.

He urged service users to remain calm yet vigilant. “We urge prospective passengers to continue monitoring official information from their respective airlines and to arrive earlier at the airport. This step is important to ensure smooth departure procedures amid potential enhanced security screening procedures,” he added.

With normal operational status, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport continues to demonstrate its role as a robust primary gateway for Eastern Indonesia, ready to serve under any circumstances.
