Sultan apologizes over false alarm

YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X toured the southern coast of Yogyakarta on Sunday, reassuring residents the area was safe from storms.

During his visit, he also apologized to residents for a storm warning issued by the authorities that turned out to be a false alarm.

"I apologize to the fishermen who did not go out to sea after the storm warning was issued. Having not gone out to sea, they suffered financial losses," said Hamengkubuwono, who is also the sultan of Yogyakarta.

The storm warning was issued in early February, warning residents a tropical storm could struck the southern coast of Yogyakarta sometime between Feb. 8 and Feb. 13. -- JP
