The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has assured that the electricity system in the Sulawesi region—encompassing South, Southeast, and West Sulawesi (Sulselrabar)—is adequately prepared to manage the anticipated surge in demand during the 2026 Eid exodus. Sufficient power reserves and thousands of personnel on alert are expected to guarantee public comfort during this significant occasion.

Muhammad Mahmud Azhar Lubis, Special Staff to the ESDM Minister for Investment and Economy, stated during a direct inspection of PLN’s Makassar Load Control Centre (UP2B) that available electricity capacity is more than sufficient to meet the surge in public demand.

“I have checked PLN’s preparations and readiness. We have witnessed firsthand that electricity capacity and current public needs are in adequate and secure condition,” Mahmud Azhar said after monitoring the control room for South Sulawesi’s electricity system.

Edyansyah, General Manager of PLN UID Sulselrabar, detailed that the current generation capacity for South Sulawesi’s system stands at 2,285 Megawatts (MW). With an estimated peak load of 1,718 MW, there is a power reserve or margin of 567 MW.

To maintain this reliability, PLN has mobilised full capacity comprising ten special teams for Live-Line Working (LLW). These teams possess specialised expertise to handle potential technical disruptions without interrupting electricity supply, enabling normal public activities to continue uninterrupted.

Anticipating the growing trend of electric vehicles, PLN has prepared 69 public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) at 53 strategic locations across the Sulselrabar region. These facilities are positioned along major routes expected to experience high volumes of Eid travellers in 2026.

Adi Lumakso, PLN’s Director of Risk Management, explained that preparations for this year’s Eid have been undertaken through comprehensive assessment and maintenance carried out well in advance. Preventive measures are being implemented to minimise any disruption risk.

“We have taken preventive measures across various fronts to enable the public to worship comfortably and celebrate the festive season without concerns about electricity disruptions,” Adi affirmed.

With mature infrastructure and personnel preparations in place, the Government and PLN are committed to delivering the best service to ensure the spiritual significance of worship and the joy of Sulawesi’s population celebrating Eid 2026.
