Sulasmini's account of finding a human foot at a Buleleng flood site
Ida Ayu Sulasmini, 59, saw something suspicious among flood-damaged debris in Banjar Village, Banjar District, Buleleng, while taking out the rubbish at around 1:30 p.m. WITA. From a distance, the object appeared to resemble a human foot. ‘At half past one I was taking out the rubbish. I didn’t realise at first that it looked like a foot,’ Sulasmini said at the scene on Saturday, 7 March 2026. Initially unsure of what she was seeing, Sulasmini called her husband to confirm. ‘I called my husband to confirm. It turned out to be a human foot,’ she added, still in shock. After a closer inspection, the visible part indeed appeared to be a single foot, with the rest of the body still buried under flood material. The finding was reported to the joint search-and-rescue team conducting a flood-victim search in the area. Soon afterwards, officers arrived to conduct examination and evacuation. After the flood material was cleared, the body was confirmed to be Komang Suci, 44. Suci was identified as one of the flood-turned victims who occurred on the night of Friday, 6 March 2026. At the time, Suci was swept away in the flood currents along with her two children, Putu Wini (17) and Kadek Wahyu (14). As of Saturday night, the two children were still being sought by the joint SAR team. Suci was the second victim recovered in the flood-inducing incident. A day earlier, the SAR team had found another victim, Dewa Ketut Adi Suarjana, 55. The search for victims continues by the joint SAR team.
