Sukuh temple to be renovated

SEMARANG: The provincial administration plans to renovate the Sukuh temple in Karanganyar to draw more tourists into the area.

The head of the Central Java Tourism Service, Sri Soebagyo, said the project will include such facilities as restaurants, hotels, motels, camping site, souvenir shops and transportation facilities, Antara reported.

"The administration is also inviting private investors to build some of the facilities," Soebagyo said.

The Sukuh temple complex is located at the foot of the 1,250- meter Mt. Lawu.

The cool climate in the area -- with temperatures ranging between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius -- makes it ideal for tourism.

The area also boasts two other temples, the Planggatan and Cetho, a waterfall and a lake. It is also located close to Tawangmangu, a resort city, and the Mangkunegaran kings cemetery complex. (03)
