Sukoharjo Uses Eco-Friendly Besek Containers for Eid al-Adha Sacrificial Meat Distribution
The use of bamboo containers, locally known as besek, is becoming increasingly popular as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags for distributing sacrificial meat. This movement is part of the growing ‘Eco-Friendly Qurbani’ campaign in Indonesia, encouraging the public to reduce single-use plastic waste during Eid al-Adha celebrations. Bamboo baskets and natural wrappings such as banana or teak leaves are considered more environmentally friendly due to their biodegradability and reusability. This trend is also helping to revive local bamboo crafts and support small-scale artisans.
