Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani Officially Named Suspect, Immediately Detained

Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani has been named a suspect in an alleged extortion case within the Sukoharjo Regency Government, Central Java. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) immediately detained her. Etik was seen wearing an orange KPK detainee vest at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta in the early hours of Saturday morning, around 02.38 WIB. Two other detainees were also visible in official KPK video footage, though the KPK has yet to reveal their identities. The KPK had previously confirmed on Thursday, 10 July, that it had conducted a sting operation (OTT) against Etik Suryani, the 16th such operation carried out by the commission in 2026. The KPK stated the operation was linked to alleged extortion by the Sukoharjo Regent against regional apparatus within the Sukoharjo Regency Government. Initially, the KPK reported the arrest of five individuals, but later updated the figure to 18 people detained, with nine of them brought to Jakarta for intensive examination. The KPK also seized evidence including precious metals and cash amounting to billions of rupiah in Indonesian rupiah, Australian dollars, and Singapore dollars.
