Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani has been caught in a sting operation (OTT) by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) over an alleged extortion case involving her subordinates. The KPK confirmed the operation, which took place on Friday (10/7/2026), but has yet to detail all the parties arrested.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the case concerns the alleged extortion of regional apparatuses by the regent. “This case is related to the alleged extortion by the regent against regional apparatuses in Sukoharjo Regency,” Budi told reporters.

Etik is a cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P). The party has expressed its full support for the legal proceedings. “PDI-P is law-abiding, therefore we support the legal process carried out by law enforcement officials,” said Andreas Hugo Pareira, Chair of the PDI-P Central Board. He urged the KPK to process the case fairly and hoped there would be no political bias or criminalisation.

Etik arrived at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, at around 09.37 WIB, dressed in black and wearing a black mask. She was immediately escorted inside for questioning without making any statement to the media.

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that a total of nine individuals were secured in the operation and transported to Jakarta. The first group of four, including the regent and three civil servants (ASN) from Sukoharjo, had already arrived. A second group of five, comprising three more civil servants and two private parties, was expected to arrive later in the day. The arrests were made across several locations, including Wonogiri, Solo, and Sukoharjo.

In addition to the arrests, KPK investigators seized evidence including gold bars and cash in rupiah, Australian dollars, and Singapore dollars, with a total value reaching billions of rupiah. The detained individuals are currently undergoing intensive examination at the KPK headquarters.
