Sukoharjo Regent Becomes Latest Regional Head Elected in 2024 to Be Arrested by KPK
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani in a sting operation (OTT) conducted in the Soloraya region of Central Java. The arrest adds to the growing list of regional heads elected in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections who have become entangled in corruption cases, despite having served for less than two years since their inauguration in February 2025. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that five individuals were detained during the operation, and investigators seized evidence including precious metals and cash in both rupiah and foreign currencies, such as Australian and Singapore dollars, totalling billions of rupiah. Suryani is currently undergoing intensive examination at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta. Her case brings the total number of regional heads from the 2024 election cycle implicated in corruption to 15, with 10 of those arrests occurring in 2026 alone. The list includes the Governor of Riau, the Regent of East Kolaka, the Regent of Ponorogo, the Regent of Central Lampung, the Regent of Bekasi, the Regent of Pati, the Mayor of Madiun, the Regent of Pekalongan, the Regent of Rejang Lebong, the Regent of Cilacap, the Regent of Muara Enim, the Regent of Kuantan Singingi, and the Regent of Langkat.
