Sukoharjo Regent Arrested by KPK, Governor Luthfi Assures Public Services Uninterrupted

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has ensured that the wheels of government and public services in Sukoharjo Regency continue to run as usual, even though Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani was caught in a sting operation (OTT) by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Luthfi fully supports the steps taken by the KPK in its efforts to combat corruption in his region.

He admitted he was concerned about the incident. According to him, efforts to realise a clean and integrity-driven government must begin with the example set by a leader.

“I have said repeatedly that we must create a clear and good government. For that, it starts with the leadership. As they say, the fish rots from the head. That means we must set an example,” Luthfi said on the sidelines of the 2026 Leprosy National Conference at Grand Sahid Jaya, Jakarta, on Friday, 10 July 2026.

Luthfi explained that the principles of good governance must be applied by all officials, from the use of authority and budget management to accountability in carrying out duties.

All government processes, he said, must be carried out transparently, accountably and in accordance with the rules. He hopes that all officials at any level will genuinely implement these principles.

Following the KPK sting operation, Luthfi will order a team to go to the Sukoharjo Regency Government to provide assistance so that public services run as they should.

“Whoever the leader is that runs into trouble, government and public services must not be disrupted. We will back up the running of the government in Sukoharjo. Later we will appoint an acting regent once there is a permanent legal basis,” he explained.

For information, the KPK carried out a sting operation in Sukoharjo Regency on Thursday night, 9 July 2026. Several people were taken in for questioning, one of whom was Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani.

Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani was arrested along with four others in a KPK sting operation related to alleged extortion of regional officials in Sukoharjo Regency.

The KPK brought Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani to Jakarta. Etik, along with four others, was secured in connection with an alleged extortion case against regional officials.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo revealed that the sting operation against Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani was related to an alleged extortion case against regional officials at the Sukoharjo Regency Government.

Not only Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani, the KPK sting operation in Solo Raya also netted four other individuals.

The KPK has 1x24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested.
