Sukoharjo Regent Appears in Detention Vest Following KPK Sting Operation

The orange detention vest worn by Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani marked the start of the legal process following a sting operation conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Alongside two officials of the Sukoharjo District Government, she was detained after being named a suspect in a case of alleged extortion against village officials. In the case, the KPK also presented evidence in the form of cash, foreign currency and precious metals worth billions of rupiah.

Suryani wore the detention vest after undergoing questioning at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Saturday (11/7/2026). Following the sting operation on Thursday (9/7), the KPK detained three suspects: Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani, Head of the Regional Finance and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD) Richard Tri Handoko, and Head of the General Affairs Division of the Sukoharjo District Secretariat Tri Mulyo, in connection with the alleged extortion of village officials in Sukoharjo Regency.

During the arrests, investigators seized foreign currency worth approximately Rp7.5 billion. According to the KPK, all the assets will be examined for any links to the alleged criminal acts under investigation. Investigators also revealed that the cash secured amounted to around Rp6.4 billion.

A total of 25 pieces of precious metal, each weighing 100 grams, or 2.5 kilograms in total, were also displayed at the press conference. The precious metals were estimated to be worth around Rp7.3 billion.

The detention of the three suspects marks the beginning of a legal process that will proceed to court. The KPK has confirmed that the investigation into the alleged extortion of village officials in Sukoharjo Regency continues to be developed to uncover all the facts and parties suspected of involvement.
