Two decades of Sekolah Sukma Bangsa (SSB) journeying through the times and guiding generations have been marked by various struggles. As a form of reflection on those 20 years of dedication, Sekolah Sukma Bangsa Pidie, Bireuen and Lhokseumawe City are holding an exhibition (expo) of student works and documentation of the schools’ journey.

The exhibition, which traces two decades of endeavour, runs for four days from 20 to 23 June 2026. The activities are centred at the Sekolah Sukma Bangsa complex in Lhokseumawe City.

Rizki Nova Amelida, Chairperson of the Pidie Expo Committee, explained that the exhibition showcases a wide range of student creativity, from literary works to traditional crafts. One of the main highlights is the presence of hundreds of books and original written works by the students.

“Among the items on display are hundreds of student-authored books. In addition, there are paintings, batik crafts, works made from recycled materials, clay pottery, fine art, as well as calligraphy and ornamental flowers,” Rizki Nova Amelida told Media Indonesia on Friday (17/7).

The woman affectionately known as Ibu Amel added that the exhibition is not limited to student works, but also includes written works by teachers and educational staff. From SSB Pidie alone, at least 64 book titles are on display. Notably, the exhibition is also attended by a contingent from outside Aceh, namely Sukma Sigi School in Central Sulawesi.

“Through this EXPO, we hope to depict the 20-year journey of the Sukma schools in Aceh after the tsunami through visual and tangible works, encompassing education, cooperation, advocacy and research,” added the science teacher at SMP Sukma Bangsa Pidie.

Marthunis Bukhari, Director of Sekolah Sukma Bangsa Pidie, stated that the entire series of reflections on the two decades will culminate on 23 July 2026 in Lhokseumawe. The peak event is planned to be attended in person by the Chairman of Media Group and Chair of the Advisory Board of the Sukma Foundation, Surya Paloh, as well as the Indonesian Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Prof Abdul Mu’ti.

“This is not merely a birthday celebration, but a momentum to equip students with the competencies of the future while continuing to kindle hope and nurture peace from Aceh for Indonesia,” concluded the man affectionately known as Abi Martin.

The school, born from the womb of the ‘Indonesia Menangis’ (Indonesia Weeps) programme, officially turned 20 years old on 14 July 2026.
