Sukhoi arrival disappoints legislators
JAKARTA: House of Representatives Commission I stated on Tuesday the government had offended legislators for allowing the delivery of the Russian-made Sukhoi jet fighters to Indonesia, saying it would order law enforcers to subpoena officials involved in the warplane purchase.
Ibrahim Ambong of Golkar Party, chairman of Commission I, said the arrival of Sukhoi jet fighters indicated that the government had ignored the House's recommendation to delay the purchase.
He said the House working committee would continue its inquiry and file a report with House leaders as well as the President next week.
Meanwhile, commission deputy chairman Effendy Choirie of the Nation Awakening Party said the delivery would mean the government had breached proper procedures and legislation.
"Thus, everyone involved in the trade and violating the procedures must be punished," he said.
The Sukhoi jet fighters are expected to arrive on Wednesday, after a 24-hour delay. --Antara
