Sukamenak Residents in Bandung Receive Affordable Food Programme
Ahmad Najib Qodratullah, a member of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, organised a series of discounted food purchasing activities titled PANsar Ramadhan in Sukamenak Village, Margahayu District, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Monday 9 March.
Najib stated that the initiative formed part of a party assignment currently directed by Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan.
“This activity is a task from my party chairman, who also serves as Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Food (Zulkifli Hasan),” Najib said in a statement received on Monday 9 March.
He explained that the implementation of this affordable market bazaar represented an instruction for all legislative members from his faction to set aside income to assist the community during the holy month.
“All members of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PAN faction are required to allocate their income to carry out the PANsar Affordable initiative,” Najib added.
The initiative was expected to alleviate the economic burden on residents in meeting basic needs during Ramadan observance and heading into Eid al-Fitr. The discounted purchasing activity received a positive response from local residents, particularly women in Sukamenak Village who felt supported by access to affordable food during Ramadan.
Rising rice prices in recent months have increased pressure on lower-income households. The government has strengthened its strategic food reserves (CPP) for food assistance by threefold. Food assistance recipients receive 20 kilogrammes of premium rice and four litres of cooking oil for two months, distributed five times annually.
