Sukabumi Residents Propose Artesian Well Construction Amid Annual Drought
Residents of Kampung Caringin RT 03/10, Baros Sub-district, Sukabumi City, have proposed the construction of an artesian well in their area. The proposal is linked to the potential threat of drought that occurs annually in the region.
Head of the Sukabumi City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Yoseph Sabaruddin, stated that during the dry season, his team routinely checks locations with the potential for drought, including the Baros Sub-district. “We checked drought-prone locations in Kampung Caringin RT 03/10. The community there proposed the construction of an artesian well,” he said on Thursday (16/7).
He explained that several residents’ wells in Kampung Caringin had been found dry. This condition has impacted the daily activities of residents, particularly the fulfilment of clean water needs. “Several households have begun to be affected by the dry season. They are experiencing difficulties with clean water supply,” he explained.
Therefore, the proposal to build an artesian well is a long-term mitigation measure, as drought is certain to occur every year. “We at the Sukabumi City BPBD are committed to continuously monitoring and coordinating with relevant parties to ensure the basic water needs of residents are met during this prolonged dry season,” Yoseph concluded.
