Sujiwo releases new album
YOGYAKARTA: Musician-cum-puppeteer Sujiwo Tejo released his new album here earlier this week at the Sheila On 7 Management office.
Entitled Syair Dunia Maya (Poem of a Virtual World), the album is the third after Pada Suatu Ketika (Once upon a time, 1998) and Pada Sebuah Ranjang (Of a bed, 1999).
Speaking at the event, Tejo said of the 11 songs in the album only two were composed in Indonesian and one in Madurese, while the rest were in the Javanese language.
"It was in fact, because of a language problem that I needed six years to release this new album," said Tejo, adding that initially the album was prepared in Indonesian."
"I find Indonesian is not as rich as Javanese in the sense of sound. That's why I finally decided to use Javanese for most of the songs," he said.
As in previous albums, the new work offers music that is a mix of both ethnic and modern music.
Produced by EKI Productions, the album involves prominent local musicians, including Idang Rasjidi (keyboards), Dewa Budjana (guitar), Maya Hasan (harp), and Hendri Lamiri (violin).
Some songs -- Hujan Deras, Zen Die, Dewi Ruci, Blakothang, and Aku Lala Padamu -- will be performed during a musical dance performance by the EKI Dance Company to held at the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta on May 31 and June 1. --JP
