Suitcases Larger Than 26 Inches Will Incur Additional Fees on Trains
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), specifically the Daop 6 Yogyakarta region, has reminded passengers to adhere to regulations regarding the size and weight limits for luggage carried into the cabin. This policy is implemented to ensure that journeys remain safe, orderly, and comfortable for all passengers.
Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, stated that each passenger is allowed to bring luggage with a maximum volume of 100 cubic decimetres. The maximum dimensions are 70 centimetres x 48 centimetres x 30 centimetres, equivalent to a 26-inch suitcase, with a weight not exceeding 20 kilograms.
According to her, luggage exceeding the 26-inch suitcase size or weighing more than 20 kilograms will be subject to additional fees according to the excess baggage regulations, as long as the dimensions are still within the permitted limits.
“This rule is enforced to maintain cabin space capacity and avoid disturbing other passengers,” Feni told reporters in Solo on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
The excess baggage fees vary depending on the class of service. For executive class trains, the fee is IDR 10,000 per kilogram, IDR 6,000 per kilogram for business class, and IDR 2,000 per kilogram for economy class.
KAI also stated that items with a volume exceeding 200 dm³ or dimensions greater than 70 centimetres x 48 centimetres x 60 centimetres cannot be brought into the train.
“Passengers carrying large items are advised to use the baggage delivery service,” she said.
Feni added that officers at stations and on board the trains will conduct inspections and provide information about the regulations. She urged the public to re-check their luggage before departure.
“We continue to prioritise safety and comfort. Therefore, passengers are expected to bring luggage in accordance with the regulations and not bring dangerous or flammable items,” she said.
