Suhartoyo Reveals New MK Justices Adies Kadir and Liliek No Longer Remember Proposing Institution
JAKARTA - The Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Suhartoyo has revealed that the two newest MK justices, Adies Kadir and Liliek Prisbawono Adi, are performing beyond expectations and public doubts.
“When Mr Adies and Mr Liliek were about to join the MK, there were several reports. But after joining the MK, it’s very different from what we imagined and perhaps what the public also imagined,” Suhartoyo said in his speech at the launch of the book “Kemerdekaan Kekuasaan Kehakiman” (Independence of Judicial Power) to celebrate Jimly’s 70th birthday, at the MK Building, Jakarta, on Friday (17/4/2026).
“They have truly become MK once they are in the MK. They no longer remember the institution that proposed them,” Suhartoyo added.
He admitted to feeling thrilled and moved by the work of his colleagues.
“The Constitutional Court to this day, whatever is in us, regardless of its strengths and weaknesses, its independence is always questioned,” he said.
“Yet, everyone in the MK has given everything for that independence,” Suhartoyo continued.
Before becoming an MK Justice, Adies Kadir was a cadre of the Golkar Party and held the position of Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI.
On 5 February 2026, Adies was officially inaugurated as an MK Justice to replace Arief Hidayat, who reached retirement age.
Adies’s selection as an MK Justice, proposed by the DPR RI, sparked controversy because there was previously a selected name, Inosentius Samsul.
Liliek was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on Friday (10/4/2026) to replace Anwar Usman, who reached retirement age.
Before becoming an MK Justice, Liliek had extensive experience leading various judicial institutions, from the Balikpapan District Court to the Central Jakarta District Court.
