Sugiono Telephones UAE Foreign Minister, Discusses the Latest Situation in the Middle East

Jakarta, Kompas.com — Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has spoken with the United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, by telephone on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, to discuss the latest developments and situation in the Middle East. ‘I spoke with the UAE’s Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed to exchange views on the latest developments in the Middle East, including their assessment of the strikes affecting their territory,’ Sugiono said on Thursday, 4 March 2026, as quoted by Antara. Sugiono conveyed Indonesia’s condolences for the loss of life and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every country. He added that Indonesia remains steadfast in supporting all efforts toward de-escalation. As is known, on Saturday 28 February 2026, the United States and Israel launched a joint strike against Iran, including its capital Tehran, causing infrastructure damage and casualties, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, Indonesia called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and stated readiness to facilitate dialogue to restore a conducive regional situation. In a formal statement, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said that President Prabowo Subianto is willing to travel to Tehran to mediate if invited by the parties to the conflict.
